Itinerary
We’ll depart early in the morning from your hotel or riad in Marrakech, embarking on a scenic journey toward Skoura Valley. As we cross the High Atlas Mountains, reaching an elevation of 2,260 meters, you’ll be treated to breathtaking natural landscapes.
Our first stop is the Kasbah of Aït-Ben-Haddou, one of Morocco’s oldest and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Here, you’ll enjoy a guided tour of this remarkable site, exploring its ancient fortresses, known as kasbahs, which rise impressively to ten meters. Although most residents now inhabit a modern village across the river, eight families still live within the old kasbah. Visiting Aït-Ben-Haddou is like stepping onto a movie set; this iconic location has served as the backdrop for famous films such as Lawrence of Arabia, The Mummy, Gladiator, Alexander, and Prince of Persia. After exploring, we’ll have lunch nearby.
Following lunch, we’ll continue our journey to the Dades Valley, nestled between the High Atlas Mountains and the Jbel Saghro range to the south. This region boasts one of the largest oases and numerous kasbahs, earning the nickname “Valley of a Thousand Kasbahs.”
As we traverse the Dades Valley, we’ll have the opportunity to visit the Dades Gorge and the stunning Todra Gorges. The Grand Canyon area of Todra Gorge is renowned for its dramatic rock formations, making it one of the most breathtaking natural landscapes in Morocco. A road runs through the gorge, flanked by smooth canyon walls that rise impressively on either side. The sunlight struggles to penetrate this deep valley, and the icy river water flows through it.
We’ll spend the night in this spectacular setting, enjoying dinner at a cozy riad.
Start your day with a delightful breakfast at your hotel, where you can enjoy incredible views of the Dades Valley.
After breakfast, we’ll embark on a private tour of Morocco, driving from Todra to explore the majestic Moroccan canyon, renowned for its stunning landscapes. Enjoy a delicious lunch in the canyon region before we return on the road to Merzouga.
Following lunch, our journey continues toward Merzouga, with a stop to see ancient tunnels carved into the desert that were used to capture water from underground rivers as early as the 14th century. We’ll then make our way to Erfoud, the last city before reaching Merzouga.
Upon arriving in Merzouga, your camels will be ready for a memorable 1-hour ride across the sand dunes to your desert camp.
As night falls, you will savor dinner under the stars, experiencing the beauty of the desert. After dinner, join the Berbers around a warm fire, where you can listen to traditional music before retreating to your cozy Berber tent for a restful night.
Wake up early to witness the breathtaking sunrise from the top of a sand dune, a truly magical moment in the desert. After soaking in the stunning views, enjoy a hearty breakfast before embarking on one last hour-long camel ride back to our vehicle in Merzouga.
Our journey will take us northward to the historic city of Fez, but not before we experience a day filled with spectacular landscapes and enriching encounters.
Our first stop will be in Midelt, a charming town nestled between the Middle Atlas and Grand Atlas mountains. The stunning scenery here offers a perfect backdrop for photos and a glimpse into the beauty of Morocco’s diverse landscapes.
Next, we’ll continue to the picturesque town of Ifrane, renowned for its Swiss alpine ambiance and surrounded by three protected natural areas: Ifrane National Park, the Cedar Forest, and the Ifrane Game Reserve. Situated at an altitude of 5,460 feet, Ifrane boasts a cool climate, abundant snowfall in winter, and lush landscapes dotted with giant cedar forests and playful colonies of Barbary macaques.
As we make our way through these enchanting landscapes, you’ll appreciate the unique charm that each location brings.
By the end of the day, we’ll arrive in Fez, where we will drop you off at your hotel, concluding a day of unforgettable experiences and beautiful Moroccan scenery.
Fez is a medieval city that stands as a UNESCO World Heritage site, where life has largely remained unchanged for centuries. This vibrant city has become a melting pot of languages and cultures, influenced by the gradual onset of globalization.
When you visit the medina, particularly Fez el-Bali, you’ll be walking through 1,300 years of Moroccan heritage. While the influx of tourists has brought some modern touches, the magic of Fez endures. The city has weathered the passage of time and remains a testament to its rich history.
Fez el-Bali, the oldest part of the city, is renowned as the world’s largest car-free urban space, making it a unique and immersive experience for travelers. Here, you’ll encounter a continuous interplay between the bustling narrow passageways and the serene, reflective interiors of mosques and historic buildings, which contribute to Fez’s distinctive charm.
As you explore, you’ll discover the fascinating ways in which the past intertwines with the present, making Fez an unmissable destination for anyone seeking to experience the heart of Morocco.
In the morning, we’ll set off on the scenic drive to Chefchaouen, passing through Morocco’s expansive agricultural fields. By lunchtime, we will arrive in this enchanting blue city, leaving you with the rest of the day free to explore at your own pace.
Chefchaouen offers a tranquil escape from the bustling cities of Casablanca and Rabat, while still embodying the quintessential charm of Morocco. Nature enthusiasts will delight in the easily accessible Rif Mountains, perfect for a leisurely hike or simply soaking in the stunning views. Meanwhile, shoppers can wander through the delightful boutique shops, where you can find hand-spun pottery, artisanal soaps, and other unique local crafts.
Whether you choose to stroll through the clean, winding streets of the medina, embark on a hike in the surrounding mountains, or unwind with a good book and a refreshing mint tea, you’ll find that Chefchaouen leaves a lasting impression. Like most visitors, you will walk away with unforgettable memories and a sense of the city’s magical allure.
In the morning, we will begin our drive southward, heading toward the deep south of Morocco. Along the way, we’ll make a brief stop for lunch at a convenient highway location, allowing you to refuel before continuing the journey.
By the end of the day, we will arrive in Marrakech. Alternatively, if you prefer, we can drop you off in Casablanca at your hotel or the airport for your onward travel.
