3 Day tour from Marrakech to Erg Chigaga and Zagora</3>

1

Day 1: Marrakech – Zagora

Departure at 8:00 am from your hotel or riad in Marrakech towards the city of Zagora. We will pass the tizin tichka valley.

This stretch of road is considered one of the most picturesque of Morocco, by the breathtaking views of the highest mountains of the High Atlas with 2260M in the highest side.

Along the road to Ouarzazate there are several traditional villages with houses of stone or of beaten earth, surrounded by terraces and walnut trees, in which the inhabitants dedicate themselves to the agriculture, cultivating wheat and barley.

Lunch in Ouarzazate in front of the Kasbahs of Taourirt, at the beginning of the twentieth century, the Glaoui, or the pasha of Marrakech were the lords of the south and had access to the High Atlas. They were given complete power by the French during colonial rule to keep the Southern tribes peaceful and non-threatening.

The Kasbahs inside Taourirt are best described as a cobweb village of sun-kissed buildings elaborated with multi-level towers and turrets rising out of closely packed ksours (one family Kasbahs), ramparts with geometrical drawings and a series of alleys and gateways.

After lunch, we proceed to Zagora, flanked by the valley of the Draa River to our final destination that day.

Upon arrival, the largest stretch of palm trees in Morocco, more than a million of palm trees are still standing after hundreds of years old.

Upon arrival you will have the camels waiting for 1h of ride for your dinner at the campground under the stars.

Day 2: Zagora – Erg Chigaga

Departure at 8:00 to the Desert dunes of Chigaga we will lunch at the oasis of M’Hamid El Ghizlane.

Erg Chigaga is not a mainstream destination. It appeals to those seeking adventure, something unique, something off-grid. The camp is 60 km off-road from Ghizlane and the ride to the camp requires a 4WD, through sand, dried out lakes and rocks. It’s location ensure there no tour buses or mass tourism, you can climb to the top of the dunes, and see no one. It’s perfect solitude and tranquility.

You will have dinner in the desert, after dinner you can enjoy to join the berberes and listen the music by the fire before you go to rest in your berbere tent.

Day 3: Erg Chigaga – Marrakech

Wake up early in the morning to see the sun rising at the top of a sand dune then have your breakfast and enjoy the solitude of the desert dunes.

On this day we will drive many kilometers off road in lriqui National Park  crossing dunes and small mountains until we reach the small town of Taznakh which is the capital of carpets in morocco.

Glaoui rugs from the Taznakht region are often flat-woven rugs with some areas of knotted pile and even embroidery. Some of the older Glaoui rugs are now very collectible pieces.

We return on the road towards Marrakech and we will arrive in the end of the day.

Best Desert Experience Ever.
It was absolutely fantastic to have such an experience like this in Morocco, I believe it’s a Must-To-Do if you want to discover more about the desert sites and live it.
The staff was great, the accommodations were good (I booked the private options) and the guides were quite amazing as well!
